BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authority issued a blue alert on Saturday night, the lowest in a four-tier warning system, as storms will hit some southern and northeastern regions.

Over the next two days, parts of Guizhou, Chongqing, Hubei and Hunan will be hit by torrential rain, the National Meteorological Center said in a statement on its website.

Rainfall is expected to reach up to 150 millimeters in these areas, according to the statement.

The center also forecast heavy rain, accompanied by gales or hail, will sweep parts of Jilin and Liaoning provinces during the period.

The center advised people living in the affected areas to avoid outdoor activities and take precautions against possible landslides and mud-rock flows.

China has a four-tier color-coded warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
