YANGON, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities exposed nearly 60 human trafficking cases within the first half of 2016 and arrested 98 traffickers, official media reported Tuesday.
The Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division rescued nearly 130 victims who were sold into forced labor and forced marriage in neighboring countries. However, 67 others are on the lamb.
Shan state registered the highest human trafficking cases, followed by Kachin state and Yangon. No such case has occurred in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Myanmar and Bago region this year, the report added.
Myanmar is working assiduously to alleviate poverty, a primary breeder of conditions that lead to human trafficking.
