SYDNEY, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A missing person's app, which allows the uploading of data, details and photos at a faster rate, will be trialled by an Australian state police later this month.
The Queensland police told the Australian Associated Press on Tuesday that the app is expected to save hours of paperwork and help authorities find a missing person sooner.
Currently, anyone making a missing person's report is required to visit a police station in person and fill out the necessary forms.
Queensland acting police minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the app will be trialled in Ipswich and Moreton from August 22 before rolling it to the entire state.
"Time is of the essence in locating a person that has gone missing and the need for police to get on with the job of finding the person is crucial," Lynham said.
Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said about 6,000 missing person's reports were filed each year with 350 individuals remaining in the long term missing register list.
