KIEV, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Kiev's Olympic stadium is nearly prepared to host the 2018 Champions League final, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said in an interview with Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) published on Friday.
"As always, there is some renovation work, but the stadium is almost ready," Ceferin was quoted as saying by the FFU's press service.
Apart from the Champions League final, in May 2018, a string of other entertaining activities for football fans will be held in Kiev, Ceferin said, voicing his hope that the events will contribute to the development of soccer in Ukraine.
Last month, the UEFA has selected the 70,050-seat Olympic stadium to host the 2018 Champions League final.
The stadium, which was the venue for the final match of Euro 2012 soccer championship co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland, was built in 1923, but was renovated five times. After its latest reconstruction for the Euro 2012, the arena became a multifunctional venue suitable for hosting not only football matches, but also concerts and track and field competitions.
The 2018 UEFA Champions League final match is slated for May 26, 2018.
