HANOI, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) on Tuesday offered 100,000 U.S. dollars worth of humanitarian aid to Vietnam after the Southeast Asian country experienced havoc caused by floods in the central region.
At a reception ceremony held by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) in Vietnam's capital Hanoi, Hong Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam offered the aid to the Vietnamese side.
Accordingly, in order to help local people in areas that are seriously affected by floods in Vietnam to soon recover from the difficulties as well as in response to the call by VRCS, the RCSC has decided to offer 100,000 U.S. dollars in aid to the VRCS.
The aid aims at providing more sources to support Vietnamese in central regions to overcome consequences of flooding, expressing feelings of the Chinese people to the losses and difficulties faced by Vietnamese people, said Ambassador Hong Xiaoyong at the ceremony.
The assistance will be used in implementing activities to assist people in Vietnam's central Quang Binh province who have suffered from heavy losses during the past floods and storms by building some 40 flood-proof houses.
Over the past years, the RCSC has maintained cooperation with VRCS via assistance provision in education and training to increase capacity of VRCS staff. In early 2016, the RCSC offered an urgent aid worth 50,000 U.S. dollars to support people in Vietnam's Central Highlands and Mekong Delta against drought and saline intrusion, said a press release of VRCS.
Currently, the RCSC is sponsoring a project of VRCS worth 700,000 Chinese yuan (over 100,000 U.S. dollars) on building a model to increase resistance for communities, with comprehensive intervention from raising awareness, increasing capacity to respond, equipping with first aid skills and response to emergency medical situations, improving situation of clean water and hygiene, as well as measures to adapt to climate change.
In addition, in the coming time, the VRCS and RCSC are expected to sign a cooperation agreement for the 2016-2021 period.
