Philippine president arrives in Myanmar on state visit

YANGON, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Nay Pyi Taw Sunday on an official visit to Myanmar, official sources said.

Duterte's two-day trip comes four years after former Myanmar President U Thein Sein visited the Southeast Asian member country in December 2013.

Duterte is expected to hold talks with current Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw and other high level government officials, including State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.

The Philippines and Myanmar established diplomatic ties in 1956.

The Philippines ranks the 16th on the list of 49 countries and regions making investment in Myanmar which is also home to about 1,800 Filipinos working mainly in foreign firms and international organizations.

Duterte is to proceed to Thailand after Myanmar visit.

YANGON, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Nay Pyi Taw Sunday on an official visit to Myanmar, official sources said.
