THE HAGUE, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Ajax and FC Barcelona reached a deal on the transfer of goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen to Spain, both clubs announced on Thursday.
Barcelona pays a guaranteed 13 million euros (14.67 million U.S. dollars) to Ajax and the transfer fee could be increased to 15 million euros including variables. He will have a medical examination in Barcelona on Thursday and will be officially presented to the Catalan fans and media on Friday.
The 27-year-old Dutch international had a contract until 2019 at Ajax and signed a five-year contract at Barcelona. Cillessen's buyout clause at Barcelona has been set at 60 million euros.
At Barcelona he will have to fight for the position of first goalkeeper with German Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with Claudio Bravo leaving for Manchester City.
Cillessen moved from NEC Nijmegen to Ajax in the summer of 2011. He played 143 official matches for the Amsterdam based team and became champions three times (2012, 2013 and 2014).
On Wednesday, Cillessen played his last match for Ajax at FK Rostov, losing 4-1 and failing to qualify for the group phase of the Champions League. With the Netherlands the Dutch national team goalkeeper finished third at the World Cup 2014.
