YAOUNDE, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Beignet, a popular breakfast in Cameroon, helps Victorine, a single mother, support her family and win fame among local foodies. She shares with us her recipe of making this puffy, sweet cake.
What you need for making this golden pastry are nothing but flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. (Xinhua/Huang Yanan)
Everyday, Victorine mixes 15 kg of flour with 10 liters of water, 1 kg of sugar, 300 grams of salt and 150 grams of baking powder to create beignet dough. (Xinhua/Huang Yanan)
After waiting for two or three hours, she then cut the dough into the size of table tennis balls and deep-fries them in boiling oil until they turn golden.(Xinhua/Huang Yanan)
Victorine makes 700-800 beignets everyday, with which she earns money for schooling of her four children. In their spare time, her children help attend to the stand, which is now popular among local residents. (Xinhua/Huang Yanan)
