GENEVA, March 24 (Xinhua) -- As the Yemeni conflict approaches its two-year mark, the UN high commissioner for human rights urged all parties to the conflict to put an end to fighting which has resulted in at least 4,773 civilian deaths and a further 8,272 wounded.
"Two years of wanton violence and bloodshed, thousands of deaths and millions of people desperate for their basic rights to food, water, health and security -- enough is enough," Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein said in statement.
"I urge all parties to the conflict, and those with influence, to work urgently towards a full ceasefire to bring this disastrous conflict to an end, and to facilitate rather than block the delivery of humanitarian assistance," he added.
According to UN estimates, 82 percent of the population, representing some 21 million people, are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.
The desperate situation on the ground has further been compounded by an upsurge in fighting since the beginning of the year.
