SYDNEY, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Australian counterpart Julie Bishop here on Saturday.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's ongoing visit to Australia is a success and has achieved a series of further progress in bilateral ties, Bishop said, adding that Australia was keen to work with China to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Freshly returning from a counterterrorism conference in the United States, the Australian top diplomat expressed her government's hope to strengthen anti-terror exchanges and cooperation with Beijing.
Wang said Premier Li's visit sends a strong signal that the two nations are ready to join hands in maintaining free trade, peace and stability in the region and world, as well as harmonious coexistence of multi-culture.
The two sides have agreed to build a new era of prosperity via free trade and multiple cooperation and launched three major dialogue mechanisms on innovation, energy and security, which adds new content to their bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, Wang said.
During Li's visit, the prime ministers of both countries have reached important consensus that the two sides should adhere to the principle of mutual respect and promote a healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
Li arrived in Canberra Wednesday night for an official visit to Australia. Following his Australian trip, the Chinese premier will pay an official visit to New Zealand.
