DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Ten young Tanzanians have been offered a one-year training program in China after they were pronounced winners of this year's Star Times voice talent competition.

The competition, which saw 25 contesters reach finals, came to an end at a final gala held in Dar es Salaam Friday night.

It followed months of stiff struggle by contesters from Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland's regions of Mwanza and Dar es Salaam where talent searching was conducted.

This was the second time in a row for the company to run the competition through its brand name Star Times and Star Swahili Channel. Last year a cohort of 10 Tanzanians also won the same and some now are employees of the company at its headquarters in Beijing, China.

Last year, the Star Times Group held the first Star TV Drama Dubbing Contest in Tanzania and chose potential contestants to work in China.

In her opening speech during the gala, Star Media Tanzania Vice President Zuhura Hanif said last year's finalists have had the chance to attend various international exhibitions and forums where they showcased Swahili culture.

"This is a way to promote Swahili but also a kind of support that our company offers to help curb unemployment which is a big problem worldwide because the winners are employed directly at our company headquarters," she said.

She said the company is working on how to reach various regions during talent search to ensure a huge number of Tanzanians participate contrary to currently where they only choose in three places.

The winners were also awarded various gifts including television sets and cellphones.
