MOSCOW, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday welcomed the agreements reached between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and South Korea.

"We express hope that their implementation will contribute to the de-escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula and ensure stability in this sub-region," the ministry said in a statement.

It also hopes that all interested parties will support the steps aimed at resuming the dialogue between the two countries, which is the only possible way of finding a mutually acceptable solution.

Russia is ready to keep rendering all possible assistance to the peaceful settlement of the Korean Peninsula problems, it said.

Senior government officials of the two Koreas met in the truce village of Panmunjom for the first time in about two years on Tuesday and reached a series of agreements.

The DPRK agreed to send a high-level delegation to the Winter Olympics to be hosted next month in the South Korean city of PyeongChang.

The two sides also agreed to ease military tensions and discussed possible reunions of separated families during the upcoming Lunar New Year.
