LAGOS, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- At least five persons were killed by suspected Boko Haram militants in Kaya village in restive northeast Nigeria's Adamawa State, a local official said Friday.

Yusuf Muhammed, Chairman of Madagali Local Government Area, who confirmed the killing of five people, said the incident occurred on Thursday at about 10 p.m.

He said several people were injured , while houses and other properties were destroyed during the attack.

He said following the frequent attacks on towns and villages in the area many people were fleeing to other parts of the state and neighboring country Cameroon.

The chairman told reporters that three persons were also killed in another attack in Pallam village on Tuesday, noting that the area recorded about 10 deadly attacks, since Jan. 1, 2018.

Othman Abubakar, a state police spokesperson, also confirmed the attack, adding that the police command was still gathering information about the incident.

Boko Haram has been blamed for the death of more than 20,000 people and displacement of 2.3 million others in Nigeria since 2009.
