Indonesia to take part in Thailand's int'l travel fair

JAKARTA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia would open a tourism promotion exhibit in Thailand's landmark international travel fair held in Bangkok from Feb. 7 to 11, an Indonesia tourism ministry official said here on Tuesday.

"This year we have set the target to receive 163,000 Thai tourists. The upcoming travel fair is a crucial moment to seize the Thai market. More than 400,000 visitors were expected to attend the travel fair event," Rizki Handayani, an assistant deputy minister overseeing regional market at the ministry said in a statement.

The arrivals of Thai tourists in Indonesia from January to November last year stood any 98,289. Thailand was Indonesia's fourth largest tourism market in Southeast Asian region after Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, she said.

Rizki said that the Indonesian exhibit in the 2018 Thailand International Travel Fair (TITF) would consist of 8 booths, themed traditional Phisinis vessel.

The exhibit would showcase Indonesia's traditional and cultural dance performances, Indonesian foods and beverages.

The government would bring along 10 firms running hospitality businesses in Bali, Central Java, West Java, East Nusa Tenggara, Yogyakarta and North Sumatra provinces in the upcoming TITF event.

According to her, direct tour package sales for Thailand potential travelers would be conducted in the Indonesian exhibit throughout the 5-day event.

Commenting the Indonesian mission in the upcoming 2018 TITF, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said that the markets in Southeast Asian region have great potentialities to tap on.

The proximity in culture, distance and abundance of flight access to cities in the region have made it highly possible to give positive impacts to national tourism, he added.
