NEW DELHI, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Delhi Police have arrested a man for ferrying fine Indian softshell turtles which he bought for his father-in-law to eat in order to cure Tuberculosis (TB).
Possession of turtles is banned in the country as it is an endangered and specified specie.
The police on Monday registered a case against the man under various provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act.
Police sources said that during interrogation, the man identified as Aman, a resident of Delhi, revealed that he had bought the turtles for his father-in-law, who is a Tuberculosis patient, to eat in a bid to get cured from his ailment.
A police source who is dealing with the case said the arrest was made during regular patrolling on the night.
