MOSCOW, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- The building of the Russian trade mission in Syria's capital Damascus came under a mortar attack on Tuesday, with no casualties reported so far, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"On February 6, at approximately 4 pm local time (1400 GMT), a 120-mm mortar shell hit the building of the trade mission of the Russian Federation in Damascus (the work of the mission is currently suspended while the building continues to enjoy diplomatic immunity). No one was killed or injured, but the building suffered significant material damage," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry strongly condemns the "terrorist attack", among many others against Russian diplomatic missions in Syria in recent days.

It also called on the international community to make objective judgments about the increasingly rampant actions by terrorists in Syria.

"We appeal to international and regional partners to take an objective look at what is happening and to give a proper and principled assessment of the actions of those who commit terrorist attacks directed against diplomatic missions, religious buildings and humanitarian missions," the statement read.

According to the ministry, more than 10 people have become victims of mortar shelling by terrorists in Damascus over the past two days.
