BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- More rainfall can be expected for the next two weeks in Brunei, with potential active weather conditions to occur again from Feb. 12-17, after rainy days since Feb. 1, the country's meteorological authority said on Wednesday.

"Brunei Darussalam is in the second phase of the Northeast Monsoon period, with February typically categorised as the second driest month of the year due to the less amount of rainfall recorded compared to other months," Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) said in a statement.

However, the country has experienced rainy days from Feb. 1 until Wednesday, with rainfall recorded as of Feb. 5 by the Meteorological Observation Station at the Brunei International Airport at 82.8mm, more than half the long term normal rainfall (1981-2010) for February (157.1mm).

Due to the incessant rainy weather, several low lying areas across the country were submerged in water following continuous heavy rainfall, a local police officer told Xinhua.

"Car accidents have occurred across the country and some parts of the roads have become submerged and inaccessible," he added.
