Myanmar gov't pledges to take strict action against massive bomb attack in northern state

YANGON, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar government pledged on Friday to take serious action against Wednesday's bomb attack by some unknown group near private Yoma bank and AYA bank in Lashio, Shan state, according to a statement from the National Reconciliation and Peace Center, chaired by State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.

The state counselor condemned such bomb blast attacking the public areas and hurting innocent civilians, the statement said.

The explosion hit Yoma bank, affecting nearby AYA bank at 04:40 p.m. local time on Wednesday, killing two staff, injuring 21 including 12 women.

At present, tight securities measures have been imposed on Lashio and investigation into the incident is underway.
