KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The personnel of Afghan intelligence agency had busted a terror group in the country's southern province of Kandahar, the National Directorate for Security (NDS) said Sunday.
"A notorious terrorist group has been busted following recent raids launched by NDS in surrounding areas of Kandahar city. A total of 12 arrests were made during raids which also led in confiscation of weapons and three motorbikes and a rickshaw," provincial department of national intelligence agency said in a statement.
The group was involved in series of major attacks, including targeted shootings in Kandahar city and surrounding areas.
The statement added that the timely arrest of the men has foiled major terror attacks in the province.
Security situation has been improving in Kandahar, the former stronghold of Taliban, over the last months, as security forces have conducted search and cordon operations across the province. But the militants still attack government interests in the province from time to time.
