JAKARTA, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- A powerful quake of 7.6 magnitude hitting Papua New Guinea on Monday has destroyed houses, school buildings and other facilities in Papua province of eastern Indonesia, a disaster agency official said on Tuesday.
The shakes of the quake damaged a water treatment facilities, seven houses, a health clinic, a school building as well as a office building in the districts of Mindipanah, Waroko, and Arimop of the province, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.
"Poor geographical condition hampers relief aid distribution to the affected areas," he told Xinhua, also citing poor communication facilities.
Clean water and medical aids are badly needed, he said.
However, the official did not elaborate further on the victims of the quake.
