KHARTOUM, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Tuesday made amendments in the command of the Sudanese Army, said army spokesman.
"Limited change has been made in the Command of the Joint Staff of the armed forces besides promotion of a number of officers to lieutenant general and general," said Ahmed Khalifa Al-Shami, Sudanese army spokesman.
Lt. Gen. Kamal Abdul-Marouf Al-Mahi was appointed as chief of joint staff to succeed Lt. Gen. Emad-Eddin Mustafa Adawe, and the State Minister for Defence Gen. Ali Mohamed Salem was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.
Al-Bashir also promoted Gen. Essam-Eddin Al-Mubarak Habeeballa to the rank of lieutenant general and appointing him as deputy chief of staff in place of Lt. Gen. Tahya Mohamed Khair Ahmed.
Al-Bashir further promoted Gen. Al-Sir Hussein Bashir Hamid to the rank of lieutenant general and appointed him as inspector general of the Sudanese Armed Forces, the statement said.
The changes also included appointment of Gen. Abdel-Fatah Burhan as chief of staff of the ground forces and promotion of Maj. Gen. (pilot) Salahuddin Abdel-Khaliq Saeed to the rank of general and appointing him as chief of staff of the air forces.
Maj. Gen. Abdalla Al-Matari is promoted to the rank of general and appointed as chief of staff of the navy forces, said the statement.
Gen. Hashim Abdel-Mutallab Ahmed Babikir, meanwhile, has been appointed as chief of staff of joint operations, while Maj. Gen. Adam Haroun Idriss has been promoted to the rank of general and appointed as deputy chief of staff for ground forces operations.
Additionally, Maj. Gen. Mohamed Munti Anjar has been promoted to the rank of general and was appointed as deputy chief of staff administration, while Maj. Gen. Osman Mohamed Al-Gbash has been promoted to the rank of general.
"These decisions come as part of the regular command administrative arrangements according to the law of the Sudanese Armed Forces for 2007, amendment 2013," said Al-Shami in the statement.
