ISLAMABAD, March 7 (Xinhua) -- At least 37 people were injured on Wednesday in a road accident in Pakistan's northwest Charsadda district, local media reported.
According to the reports, the accident took place when two passenger vehicles coming from opposite directions collided with each other at Shabqadar Road in the Saeedabad area of Charsadda, a district in the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the injured to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, the provincial headquarters of the province.
At least three members of the rescue team also sustained minor injuries when their vehicle met an accident during the rescue operation.
Hospital officials said that two of the injured are in critical condition and they are being treated in the intensive care unit.
Police said that the accident was caused by the overspeeding of the two vehicles.
A case has also been registered against the injured drivers of the two passenger coaches at a local police station under the charges of the speed limit violation, reckless driving and putting passengers' lives in danger.
