PARIS, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Two men were arrested and convicted of killing an 85-year-old Jewish woman in an apparent anti-Semitic attack, news channel BFMTV reported on Tuesday.
Two men, aged 29 and 22 years, have been placed under investigation and charged with murder "motivated by the real or supposed adherence to a religion," aggravated robbery, and destruction of property, according to the report.
Last Friday, Holocaust survivor Mireille Knoll, 85, was found dead in her apartment in Paris's central 11th district. She had been stabbed multiple times before her flat was set on fire.
One of the suspected murderers had a reputation for being anti-Semitic.
Late on Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted about what he called a "horrific" crime, saying "I reaffirm my total determination in fighting anti-Semitism," he added.
France is home to more than 400,000 Jewish people, the biggest community in Europe.
