KUWAIT CITY, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait has vowed to continue its support for Yemen as a nonpermanent member in the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Speaking at a ceremony held on Wednesday by the Senegalese embassy in Kuwait to mark Senegal's national day, Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah stressed that Kuwait, with its non-permanent membership in the UNSC for 2018-2019, will seek to mitigate the sufferings of the Yemeni people.

He mentioned Kuwait's participation in the Yemen High-Level Pledging Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland on Tuesday, saying it was a manifestation of Kuwait's support to the Yemeni people.

The conference received international pledges of over 2 billion U.S. dollars in aid to Yemen in 2018. Kuwait is one of the donors.

Al-Jarallah said that Kuwait is working on both political and humanitarian paths for resolving the Yemeni crisis, adding that the political path is based on dialogue and consultations.

Kuwait has hosted several talks among the Yemeni parties for this purpose, he said, adding that his country is part of the Arab coalition that aims at restoring stability in Yemen.
