ATHENS, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Greece's main opposition New Democracy (ND) party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis will promote a different economic policy mix for the post- bailout era, if he wins the next general elections, he said on Thursday in Athens.
As the current Left-led government is due to present to a Euro group meeting later this April its proposal for a post-bailout reform program in exchange for debt relief from international creditors after the expiry of the third Greek bailout this summer, the centre-Right leader told a foreign correspondents briefing that his party's plan for the day after will differ.
"The country is bound by fiscal targets after the end of the bailout. These cannot change unilaterally. However, we are not bound by a certain policy mix," he said.
Mitsotakis expressed doubt whether the plan the current government drafts, will be constructive.
"We will not be bound by a program which recycles outdated ideas," he said, stressing that ND's reform and growth plan will be "realistic and bold".
The conservative leader talked about a radical reconstruction of the public sector to reduce bureaucracy and improve efficiency, as an example, as well as the creation of a business-friendly environment which will bring more investments and much needed job positions.
The privatization program launched in 2010 when Greece signed the first bailout with international lenders to deal with the acute debt crisis, will not be focused to raising revenues, but boosting the competitiveness of the Greek economy, he added.
ND leads in opinion polls over the ruling SYRIZA party of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in recent months. The next general elections should be held by autumn 2019.
