TOKYO, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended mixed Tuesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index narrowly creeping into positive territory as investors took a cautious breather ahead of a two-day summit between Japan and the United States starting later today.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 12.06 points, or 0.06 percent, from Monday to close the day at 21,847.59.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 6.24 points, or 0.36 percent, to finish at 1,729.98.
Food and retail issues comprised notable advancers, while securities and machinery issues were among those that declined the most by the close of play.
