KIEV, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The United States has provided defensive aid worth almost 1 billion U.S. dollars for Ukraine since 2014, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch said in an interview on Monday.
In the interview with media outlets "Radio Liberty" and "112 Ukraine", Yovanovitch said the aid covered different types of equipment, including night vision devices and radars.
Furthermore, the U.S. has provided Ukrainian military with training courses aimed at strengthening their capabilities, Yovanovitch said.
According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the U.S. has been the largest donor of non-lethal military-technical assistance to Kiev since the armed conflict between government troops and pro-independence rebels started in eastern Ukraine in April 2014.
In December 2017, the U.S. State Department announced the United States would supply advanced weapons to Ukraine to update the latter's defense capabilities.
Washington's move has angered Russia, which said it would lead to "new bloodshed" in Ukraine's conflict that has already claimed more than 10,000 lives.
