HAVANA, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Bolivian President Evo Morales confirmed on Monday his trust in and support for his new Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Morales held a press conference as the final activity of his first official visit to Cuba after Diaz-Canel took office on Thursday.

Before returning to La Paz, the Bolivian leader said that "Cuba is not alone" and wished Diaz-Canel the best during his administration.

He disclosed that during his meeting earlier with the president they exchanged views on new collaboration programs in sectors of education and health.

Morales added that during the meeting he appreciated the "huge coincidences" between Diaz-Canel's policies and projects and those of his predecessors Fidel and Raul Castro.

"Cuba has a lot to teach the world in issues such as health, education and citizen safety," said Morales.

Both leaders talked about the possibility of promoting a social program similar to the "Operation Miracle", which were launched by the late revolutionary leaders Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro to restore sight to millions of people without medical resources in over 30 countries.

"This time the goal could be fighting cancer," said Morales.

Referring to his visit with Diaz-Canel to the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Havana, Morales said he was "very impressed" by the projects undertaken in the scientific institution.

"These are programs for life, not for money as some countries do," he said.

Morales is the second president to visit Cuba after the election of Diaz-Canel by the National Assembly.

Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro visited Havana this weekend and met with Diaz-Canel to set up an economic, cultural and political cooperation plan for the next 10 years.
