TOKYO, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened higher Thursday on strong U.S. stocks overnight as well as the yen's weakness against the U.S. dollar.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 89.63 points, or 0.40 percent, from Wednesday to 22,304.95.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 1.04 points, or 0.06 percent, at 1,768.77.
Gainers were led by mining, electric appliance and insurance issues.
