KIGALI, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Ten people were found dead in Karongi district, western Rwanda, due to heavy rains which pounded several parts of Rwanda on Sunday night, a local leader said Monday.
The heavy downpour, started from around 8 p.m. on Sunday until 2 a.m. on Monday local time, triggered landslides that killed the victims from Rwankuba sector, executive secretary of Rwankuba sector Vedaste Kuzabaganwa told media.
Kuzabaganwa said some residents are missing and the death toll could go up.
Heavy rains have caused a large number of casualties in Rwanda since the beginning of this year. At least 183 people were killed and 215 others were injured in Rwanda by disasters triggered by heavy rains in the first four months of 2018, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugees of Rwanda.
