HANOI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- A fertilizer-carrying truck registered in Vietnam's central highlands Lam Dong province collided with a motorbike on Monday morning and then crushed into a small lorry and four motorbikes, killing five people and injuring two others, said provincial police.

On national road No. 20, the truck collided with the first motorbike in Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province, injuring two people on the motorbike, and continued to run a short distance, then crashed into the lorry and the four motorbikes, killing the five people including the lorry's driver, police said.

According to local traffic police, the truck's driver could have lost control of his vehicle.

On Saturday, on the way from Lam Dong to central Khanh Hoa province, a 30-seater coach carrying retired police officers in northern Yen Bai province crashed into a cliff on Khanh Le mountain pass in Khanh Hoa and overturned. The accident killed three passengers on the coach, and injured nearly 20 people.

In the first four months of this year, 6,020 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam, killing 2,788 people, severely injuring 1,576 people and lightly hurting 3,060 others, according to the country's Traffic Police Department.
