ATHENS, May 15 (Xinhua) -- A cartoon exhibition that aimed to show the war through the eyes of renowned cartoonists was inaugurated on Tuesday at the hall of the Syntagma metro station in Athens.

With the motto "Make cartoons, not war", the exhibition entitled "War S.A.", the third large scale cartoon exhibition was held by the Greek Cartoonists Association that will run until May 20. It aims to send a message of unity and peace to the world community.

Visitors to Athens, as well as thousands of commuters passing by the Syntagma metro rail station daily, will be surprised by the inspired full of humor anti-war cartoons.

Using the universal language and power of the art of sketching, cartoonists want to send a pacifist cry of anguish and sympathy, an illustrated message of nations' friendship against militarism, bombs and death.

"We chose the theme of the war, as we cannot turn our eyes away from what's happening in our neighborhood but also from every corner of the world that is threatened by the hawks of the war," the Greek Cartoonists Association stated in their message.

A total of 160 cartoons are on display by 32 Greek and nine Portuguese cartoonist guests. Portugal is a country of great tradition when it comes to political cartooning.

With guest cartoonists from a different country every year, the Greek Cartoonists Association aims to make the exhibition a meeting point for cartoonists both from Europe and the local cartoon scene with their audience.
