Tourists in BiH up 15.5 pct year-on-year in Q1

SARAJEVO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) received 215,767 tourists between January and March of 2018, an increase of 15.5 percent year-on-year, official data showed Tuesday.

According to data from BiH's Agency for Statistics, there were 478,311 overnight stays during the first quarter of 2018, an 18.8 percent increase year-on-year.

Of the recorded overnight stays, foreign tourists accounted for 65.1 percent while domestic tourists accounted for the rest. Tourists from Croatia made up the biggest group -- 26.9 percent.

In terms of the length of stay, the first place was taken by tourists from Kuwait with an average stay of 3.6 nights, followed by tourists from Qatar with 3.5 nights, the Netherlands with 3.4 nights, and Romania with 3.1 nights.

Tourism, one of the fastest growing sectors in the Balkan country, brings in significant revenue.
