HANOI, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam will pour some 45 trillion Vietnamese dong (roughly 2 billion U.S. dollars) into implementing a program entitled "One Commune, One Product," according to its Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Friday.

Implemented in the 2018-2020 period in communes nationwide, the program will focus on developing agricultural and non-agricultural products and services which are the communes' strengths, and produced or provided by households, small and medium-sized enterprises and cooperatives.

The state will issue relevant legal frameworks and policies, guide the planning of goods production zones, monitor product quality standards, and assist the training, scientific and technological application, brand construction, trade promotion and credit allocation.

According to the ministry's surveys, Vietnam currently has 6,010 enterprises, cooperatives, working groups and business households, including 3,126 enterprises in rural areas, which churn out 4,823 competitive products and services.

The products and services fall into six categories, namely food (produced by 2,584 entities), beverage (1,041), herbal supplement and medicine (231), fabric and garment (186), souvenir and interior decor (580), and rural tourism (201).

To date, only 22.5 percent of the products and services have been registered for quality standards, and 14.4 percent for intellectual property protection, said the ministry.
