BANGUI, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Twelve people were killed in violent attacks on Wednesday in Bangui, capital of Central African Republic (CAR), where security situation has been deteriorating since mid-April, the CAR Red Cross confirmed on Thursday.
The attacks occurred at PK5, the commercial center and base of armed gangs of Bangui.
According to a well-informed local source on condition of anonymity, a grenade was thrown by unidentified gunmen into a market crowd, killing sevral people. Deadly fighting was then provoked in retaliation at Fatima, a neighborhood near PK5.
In mid-April, more than 20 people, including a UN peacekeeper, were killed after the UN peacekeeping mission known as MINUSCA and the CAR security forces launched a joint disarmament operation at PK5.
