TUNIS, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia's inbound tourists exceeded 2.1 million from January to May 10 this year, up 23.6 percent year on year, Tunisian Ministry of Tourism said Thursday.
Tunisian Minister of Tourism Salma Elloumi hailed the increase as a "remarkable and significant progress," saying the current year will see recovery of the country's tourism.
The number of European tourists reached 419,710 in the same period, with an increase of 52.2 percent year on year.
Elloumi said tourists returned to Tunisia after they found that the security situation is becoming stable.
The number of Chinese tourists visiting Tunisia reached 11,551 until May this year, with a growth of 56.8 percent.
Tourism revenues during Jan.-May grow 33.3 percent compared with the same period last year, reaching 772.7 million dinars (309.08 U.S. dollars).
