VIENNA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- South Korea will continue to work for peace on the Korean Peninsula after the U.S. side canceled the planned meeting with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s top leader Kim Jong Un, South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon said here Friday.
The "historic opportunity" created by the inter-Korean summit and the Panmunjom Declaration on April 27 must continue to be used, Lee told a press conference after meeting with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
Kurz considered the cancellation of the planned summit regrettable.
"However, there is still hope that there will be a peaceful solution, a peaceful coexistence," said Kurz.
Kurz hoped that this step "might be a postponement and the meeting could take place.".
U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that the United States is talking to the DPRK and his planned meeting with Kim could still happen after he canceled it on Thursday.
