GHAZNI, Afghanistan, May 29 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 militants were killed and 12 others injured since security forces waged an operation in Ghazni province, east of Afghanistan, a local official said Tuesday.
"Afghan National Defense and Security Forces launched a military operation in Gilan district of Ghazni province on Monday. Separate clashes occurred during the raid as a result, 16 insurgents were killed and 12 others injured," Arif Noori, spokesman for provincial government, told Xinhua.
An insurgents' vehicle, a heavy machine gun and 20 rounds of landmines and roadside bombs were also destroyed following the operation, he said.
Taliban militants have yet to make comments on the report.
