The Spanish Minister of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, Roman Escolano, has proposed the 47-year-old Hernandez de Cos, during his appearance before the Economy Committee of the Congress, in Madrid.

According to Spanish media, de Cos is an "excellent" candidate for the position of governor due to his "great technical training", particularly in banking and monetary matters, his "political independence", and his "experience and prestige" in the Bank of Spain and the European Central Bank (ECB).

The Spanish government made this proposal based on the professionalism, independence and merit of the candidate, which is supported by his "curriculum and trajectory", the Ministry of Economy said in a statement.
