BRATISLAVA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- A new cycle bridge will be built over the Danube's old riverbed, connecting the Slovak village of Dobrohost with the Hungarian village of Dunakiliti, Dobrohost mayor Jozef Boraros announced on Tuesday.

The recent signing of the decision will be followed by approval and implementation of public orders and construction work on the bridge. Its completion is scheduled for August 2021.

"More than 10 million euros (11.5 million U.S. dollars) should be allocated for the cycle bridge's construction with major portion being covered from EU funds. On one hand, the bridge will ensure regular transport between Slovakia and Hungary and on the other hand, it can help boost tourism," stressed Boraros.

In line with the inter-governmental agreement between Slovakia and Hungary, the bridge will serve pedestrians, cyclists, as well as rescue forces and maintenance vehicles. Heavy vehicles, such as fire engines could also use the bridge while helping in potential disasters like floods.
