FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Scores of Taliban militants have been killed or injured as locals staged uprising against Taliban in Kuran-o-Munjan district of Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province on Friday, provincial police spokesman Sanaullah Ruhani said.
"People in Kuran-0-Munjan district of Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province staged an armed uprising against Taliban insurgents Friday morning, killing and wounding scores of the rebels," Ruhani told Xinhua.
He said that the number of casualties including dead and injured could be more than 70, adding clash between the locals and militants is going on.
The official didn't say if there were casualties on the locals.
Locals have described Taliban harsh policies in Badakhshan as against Islamic teaching and this is the first time that residents stood against the armed outfit.
Taliban outfit, according to the locals, have outlawed schools for girls, and besides imposing other restrictions on the locals, have also forced villagers to sport beard.
Taliban militants who are in control of parts of the northern Badakhshan province, are yet to make comments on the situation in the restive Kuran-o-Munjan district.
