PARIS, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Sales of new vehicles in France grew slightly by 0.4 percent in May from the same period a year earlier as negative performance of foreign brands offset growing sales of home-made cars, the French car sales federation CCFA said Friday.

The eurozone's second largest economy provided 229, 259 units, compared to 228, 267 cars sold in May 2017, the federation's report showed.

French brands gained 4.7 percent over the period due to boosted sales of Peugeot Citroen sales. PSA, France's main car maker, sold 8.7 percent more new cars.

Renault, France's second largest auto manufacturer, saw its sales inching up by 0.2 percent after registering 60, 381 units with those of its low-cost Dacia rose by 24.7 percent compared to a year ago.

As to foreign brands, French clients bought 96,726 units, down by 4.9 percent.
