LAGOS, June 4 (Xinhua) -- At least 200 inmates broke out of a prison on Sunday in Minna, a city in Nigeria's north central state of Niger, Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dabazzau said Monday.
The minister, who spoke to reporters in Minna, the state capital after on the spot assessment of the prison, said 30 of the inmates have been recaptured.
"There are security gaps to be addressed in the prisons such as manpower, decongestion," he added.
On his part, Comptroller General of Prison Jaafaru Ahmed said that an investigative panel has been set up to ascertain the causes of the jailbreak.
The jailbreak was perpetrated by armed criminals who attacked the prison and gained access after exchange of fire with prison armed men.
