Russian trade surplus up 37.8 pct in Jan.-April 2018

MOSCOW, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Russia's trade surplus increased to 65.3 billion U.S. dollars in the first four months in 2018, a 37.8 percent year-on-year growth, the Russian Federal Customs Service said Wednesday.

Russia's exports in January-April 2018 increased by 26.8 percent to 140.2 billion U.S. dollars, while imports in the period were up 18.6 percent to 75 billion U.S. dollars, according to a report released by the customs service.

The trade surplus is 17.9 billion U.S. dollars more than the same period last year, it said.

The volume of foreign trade in January-April this year amounted to 215.2 billion U.S. dollars, a 23.8 percent increase compared to the same period in 2017.

As the basis of Russian exports, fuel and energy products took up 64.2 percent in exports in the four months, a slight increase from 64.1 percent last year.

In the commodity structure of imports, the largest share was taken by machinery and equipment, which accounted for 46.1 percent, 0.7 percent higher than last year.

According to the report, China remains one of the major trading partners of Russia in January-April 2018, with the trade turnover rising by 131.5 percent to 32.2 billion U.S. dollars.
