Greek sculptor Theodoros dies at 87

ATHENS, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Prominent Greek sculptor Theodoros Papadimitriou, known worldwide with his first name, passed away at 87, it was announced in Athens on Friday.

His works received numerous distinctions since the 60s in Greece and abroad, and currently are included in many collections throughout the world or exhibited in public spaces from Athens to Brussels.

His work "The Metro Clock" is hosted inside Syntagma square's metro station in the center of Athens.

During his career, he presented his works in solo exhibitions and participated in several group exhibitions from Portugal, Italy and Germany to Turkey, China and the United States.

With studies in Greece and Paris, the sculptor had also taught at universities in Greece, France and the U.S.

The funeral service will be held on Monday in Athens.

Speaker of the Greek parliament Nikos Voutsis expressed deep condolences to his family, noting that Theodoros was "a great artist" and his work will live on.
