PHNOM PENH, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prince Norodom Ranariddh, president of Funcinpec Party, and his wife Ouk Phalla got injured in a road accident in southwestern Preah Sihanouk province on Sunday, a senior police official said.
The accident took place at 9:00 a.m. local time in Prey Nop district, when their SUV hit head-on with another car driven in an opposite direction, said Gen. Chuon Narin, police chief of Preah Sihanouk province, who visited the scene after the crash.
"Both the prince and his wife got injured in the accident. The prince got injured on his head and legs, but not serious," he told Xinhua, adding that the prince's wife was seriously wounded in the crash.
He said the couple had been rushed to a hospital soon after the accident.
Ranariddh is a son of late King Father Norodom Sihanouk.
Currently, he is also the president of the Supreme Privy Advisory Council to King Norodom Sihamoni, his half-brother.
The prince was former co-prime minister from 1993 to 1997 and ex-president of the National Assembly from 1998 to 2006.
