PRAGUE, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Famous Czech sinologist, writer and translator Oldrich Kral died on June 21 at the age of 87, reported local media on Saturday.
Professor Kral is a Czech contemporary literary scholar, senior professor of sinology and comparative literature, translator and theorist of translation, mainly engaged in the studies on the Chinese language, Chinese classical literature, philosophy and aesthetics research.
Kral was born in Prague on Sept. 13, 1930. He has been fond of literature since childhood.
Since the middle of the 20th century, Kral had devoted his life to writing and literary translation. His translation of Chinese literature and philosophy into Czech is significant,and showed Czech readers the masterpieces of Chinese classic literature.
