ADDIS ABABA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia has arrested nine senior police officials for failing to prevent a bomb attack at a rally in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa in support of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, state media outlet Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), said on Saturday.
Ahmed Shide, Minister, Ethiopia Government Communications Affairs Office (GCAO), said nine senior police officials including deputy Addis Ababa Police commissioner and senior officials from Federal Police Commission are among those who have been put under arrest, reported EBC.
The bomb attack at the mass rally in support of the Ethiopian PM left at least one person dead.
Speaking to EBC earlier on Saturday, Zeynu Jemal, Head of Ethiopia Federal Police Commissioner, said a total of six people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement with the grenade attack.
The mass rally, which was held in Addis Ababa and other major cities across the East African country, was organized to give credit to the various activities taken for close to three months by Ahmed's administration.
Ahmed, who took the prime minister position in April this year, has made various decisions that mainly aimed to bring about peace and unity among ethnic groups in the country.
