LONDON, June 25 (Xinhua) -- A group of Chinese professors have held a ceremony in London to inaugurate the Association of British Chinese Professors (ABCP), an organization representing senior Chinese academics (full professors and equivalent) working in Britain.
Zhu Qin, Chinese Charge d'Affaires in Britain, attended the inauguration ceremony on Sunday. Zhu said as a Chinese adage goes "A hero is a product of his time and befitting his time", the establishment of the ABCP is both timely and significant.
Zhu hoped that the ABCP will live up to the mission by taking up the role of a bond between the past and present by carrying on the patriotic tradition, a bond between China and the UK by facilitating bilateral cooperation as well as a bond between the present and the future by fostering a generation of young leaders.
Lin Jianguo, president of ABCP, said that ABCP's vision is to build a long and solid bridge between the UK and China, and promote Sino-UK collaborations in the fields of arts, economics, science & technology, medicine and education.
"This would fully exploit our experience, wisdom, knowledge, and expertise to achieve a win-win situation for both countries. This is also an excellent platform for all UK Chinese professors to mark solid contributions worldwide and impacts on future generations," Lin said.
Gu Sai, executive vice president of ABCP, told Xinhua that to date, there are about 500 Chinese full professors in the UK across a wide range of disciplines, representing a formidable talent pool in academia and research organizations.
Gu said the Association aims to bring together all British Chinese professors in the UK to promote excellence, share ideas and facilitate collaborations between the UK and China.
ABCP is an independent and non-profitable association dedicated to increasing its members' impact and engaging academic collaborations, in particular collaborations between UK and China. ABCP members represent the highest caliber of Chinese academics in the UK across many fields.
