RABAT, June 25 (Xinhua) -- An international meeting, initiated by Morocco and the United States, was held Monday in the Moroccan capital to discuss appropriate means to tackle homegrown terrorism.
Held as part of the Morocco-U.S. Initiative to Address Homegrown Terrorism, the meeting aimed at looking for effective measures to detect, prevent, intervene in and respond to domestic terrorism.
The finalized document will be submitted for adoption at the next Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) ministerial meeting to be held in New York in September 2018.
Launched under the auspices of the GCTF, the Initiative to Address Homegrown Terrorism is led by Morocco and the U.S., in collaboration with the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law.
It aims to improve coordination and cooperation between government departments and relevant non-governmental actors to deal with terror attacks by individuals in their countries of origin or residence, directed or inspired by foreign terror groups.
The meeting in Rabat is meant to allow GCTF members and some non-members to review and discuss the good practices identified during the initiative's previous activities.
The 30-member GCTF, co-chaired by Morocco and the Netherlands since 2016, regularly brings together decision-makers and counterterrorism experts from across the world.
